pandora Pandora Pandora announced today that it has reached a deal with Merlin, a group that represents independent record labels around the world to open lines of communication and share data. This marks the first time the company has gone out of their way to work directly with labels as opposed to going through a third party.

Pandora Charms Sale To begin with, the deal will see Pandora negotiating directly with labels in terms of royalties. While the amount artists earn per stream isn’t expected to rise, it does show that the internet radio firm is willing to speak to those actually providing the product, as opposed to adhering only to rates set by the Copyright Royalty Board. The company will still send checks through SoundExchange, though the terms can now be negotiated without the use of third parties.

The data contains information about what bands are favored in what geographic regions and what songs are preferred from a certain artist. This could in turn help labels decide where and when to send their acts, increasing tour attendance.

Cheap Pandora Merlin will also be working with Pandora on making their streaming choices even better, adding a bit of the human touch to the company’s already-implemented Genome Project. While labels won’t take complete control over what songs get played—Pandora wouldn’t give up control over their tried-and-true system—they will give advice about how often certain tracks should come up based on previous skips, or in what order songs already chosen by the Genome Project should play. This could help keep people listening longer, which benefits both parties.

Pandora Outlet UK-based Merlin says it represents more than 20,000 labels around the world. These labels may have smaller market share individually, but combined the organization claims its members represent around 10 percent of the music streamed. Some of the better known labels represented by Merlin include K7!, The Secretly Label Group, ANTI-, Epitaph, and Redeye Distribution.

Pandora is the world’s leading internet streaming radio option. The site and app have about 77 million monthly users, and though that number continues to grow, the financials at the company aren’t necessarily improving. Pandora pays enormous amounts of their revenue in royalties. That number is around $111 million for the first half of 2014. To put that in perspective, that’s over 50% of revenue.
